PORTAFERRISSAGARDEN
This semi-public open space is located on the busiest commercial street in Spain amidst a dense gothic urban fabric. The pace and pressure of the street is reduced as one passes through a sequence of interior spaces. The garden receives its guests gradually reducing their speed of movement and level of stress until they arrive at a still contemplative terminus where they can escape from the city for a while before they continue on their way. The spatial sequence crosses a fan shaped plan composed of natural elements which require minimum maintenance. The use of orange trees is a reference to a historic space of similar proportions also in Barcelona.
